Pain Relieving Drugs DO NOT "fix" your problem. Pain is a response to many things in the body...but mainly, it is a response to tissue damage. When you hit your finger with a hammer, you do some degree of injury, insult to the tissues, substances are released which cause pain, and of course, pain receptors fire off...and all this is a cascade of events to let you know that some damage has occurred, or is occurring to you, and that the situation must be attended to in some fashion. Now, using opiates / opiods like Lortab, Norco, Vicodin, Oxycontin, and the like , are a means of diminishing your symptoms, or hiding them, but, the problem that is CAUSING the pain, continues without being resolved, and if the specific problem causes tissue damage, if you have not fixed the cause of the tissue damage, the damage will continue and could get to a critical point. For this reason, even though we certainly want to manage your pain, because pain can be disabling and cause depression, it is our goal to try to resolve what is CAUSING the pain.
We believe that once people understand that, even though pain most often is what brings people to the doctor's office, it is the underlying problem that must be fixed, that they will appreciate the drug-free approach which we use.
Whether you were hurt on the job, or in a wreck, or are just hurting and want to stop, we need to find out how badly you are hurt, and to do that, we need to do a proper history, examination, orthopaedic and neurological testing, and if indicated, imaging such as x-rays, or other imaging.
Using this approach, we can try to discover the nature AND extent of your injuries, and once that is determined, formulate a treatment plan.
